Crafting The Arrow
The journey of creating the arrow began much like many of our replicas—with research—but bringing this particular piece to life proved far more demanding. While most of our projects move quickly from concept to completion, Susan’s arrow became one of our earliest and most iterative works, going through around six distinct versions before reaching its final form.
The greatest challenge lay in achieving perfect proportions. Every element had to feel balanced—the length of the shaft, the size and placement of the feathers, and the precise spacing of the gold accents. Even the smallest adjustment could shift the entire aesthetic, so each version brought us closer to that ideal harmony.
Color, however, was just as complex. The arrow features a striking gradient that subtly transitions along the shaft, growing lighter as it approaches the fletchings. Capturing this effect required careful refinement to ensure the blend felt natural and visually compelling from every angle.
To complete the piece, the arrowhead was crafted and plated in real gold, adding a final layer of richness and authenticity. The result is a replica that feels both elegant and true to its inspiration—an object shaped by persistence, precision, and a commitment to getting every detail just right.
